I just received an email from moveon.org requesting that I call Rep. Barbara Lee and ask her to support the Iraq Accountability Act, which will continue to fund the Iraq War. I feel Barbara is currently representing the wishes of my district and do not want in any way to have the Iraq War continue to be funded. MoveOn has stepped away from my goals and I will no longer wish to be a member. In fact, I just went to their web site and asked to be removed from their mailing lists. I wonder if they will respect my wishes. I emailed Barbara Lee and expressed my support for her opposition to further funding of the Iraq War.

There is no place at all for these sort of amendments to the constitution of the U.S. This only leads to strife, the one example is the 18th amendment which turned almost everyone into criminals and had to be repealed after the depression hit. Why aren’t any of our representatives pointing out that amendments to the constitution should only be used to restrain government from actions, not to restrain the people.

So, I took vacation right after the semester was out at UC Berkeley. Went to Disneyworld for 5 days so I could ride their new ride, “Expedition Everest”, which turns out to be like the Disneyland classic, “Matterhorn”, on steroids! What a really fun ride and a great addition to the Animal Kingdom theme park. Rode it 6 times during my stay… the line didn’t seem to get very long. Then it was back to the Bay Area for one night, and off to Anaheim and Disneyland, again. I needed Disneyland just to recover from Disneyworld, which I forgot is so much larger in scale than disneyland that I overdid things and got blisters on my feet and stressed out my legs from walking so much. Trying to decide whether I should go back to DL over the 4th weekend.

I found myself (spoiler) wishing Ethan had died at the end. It would have been a more dramatic (and satisfying, to me at least) ending.

saw Lewis Black perform at the Paramount Theatre in Oakland on Saturday night. He had me red faced most of the hour performance from laughter. Definately do not miss his act, either live or on the cable outlets (he probably won’t be on network tv because he uses a rather large number of f-words).

They have about the worst service desk I have ever had to deal with. Reasonable companies keep track of service agreements based on the serial number of the piece of hardware, right? Frys is not anywhere near reasonable. I have dealt with Dell, Sun, and Apple, none have been more difficult to deal with than Frys. On top of that, the loaner computer that we had apparently was reported as being returned before we actually ever showed up with it. Preposterous. DON’T BUY FROM FRYS.

Not only are we warming the earth with our overuse of hydrocarbon based fuels, but we are also producing another effect, which may have a much more rapid destructive effect, called “global dimming”. Check out http://www.globalissues.org/EnvIssues/GlobalWarming/globaldimming.asp for more information on how it works and why it is believed to be showing its effects already.

Well, after pulling out hair trying to figure out what was wrong with the new mail server, I finally decided to email Wietse Venema about it. He told me right off what was wrong and although it is something that probably should be documented, it teaches the lesson that one should always go to the source at the top of trying to debug complicated software. Anyway, we will make our changes on Monday night.

I hope all goes well, campus is moving our DNS entries around so that our new postfix mail server and web server take the place of the old (tired) one. I hope this works okay, our old server is slow and far too often it is overloaded by crap, so much so that it often stops trying to deliver email. Fingers are crossed.

It strikes me as an extreme waste of time and effort to file a tax return that requires me to pay $4.84… talk about a serious waste of money and time for both me and the IRS.
